October 2024 – Image of the month ~ The success of any photograph depends on three things: composition, light, and storytelling, but the storytelling aspect gives a picture its real power.

My aim in wedding photography is to use the medium’s unique ability to captivate and narrate a compelling story within a single frame. This is the goal I strive for in every wedding I document.
I don’t make the habit of walking into ladies batherooms but this is where the bride was getting hair and make up completed. A little later, the flower girls and her mother were completing hair and at the opputune moment, we have an image conveying plenty of emotion with the envious look toward her younger sister. In terms of composition, there is an unmistakable triangle shape with the three subjects and, of course, that glorious pink wall to make the images pop.

To that end, this ability to relate to the subject makes it appeal to us and maybe chuckle at what was going on during this sliver of time. As a wedding photojournalist, it is my job to ensure that these memories allow us to remember.
