HINDU ENGAGEMENT: AMRUTA + SAMIR

Amruta and Samir held a traditional Hindu engagement ceremony in their back yard a couple of weeks ago and I was honored to photograph their special ceremony. Next up for them is for their parents to decide on where and when they’ll get married. Here in the US or in India. Either way, I hope to be lucky enough to photograph their wedding, too.

The weather was lovely and warm after a few chilly days prior. The folks here were just  so friendly and amiable. It’s amazing how many people you can fit into a back yard! This year has been great for me in terms of photographing Indian weddings. I’ve really loved every minute of it, even when I have to take what seems a gazillion formal shots – so many aunts and uncles:-)

To photograph a engagement ceremony is very special as for Amruta and Samir’s journey it’s just beginning.   I love everything Indian. I spent some time in India whilst traveling as a crew member on the QE2 in 1994 and 1995. Whilst I was there, I fell in love with the country. The colors, smells, the cultures and the people.   I visited Bombay and took a trip up to Agra to visit the Red Fort and the Taj Mahal. And of course I LOVE the food. Growing up in England, my family and I went to the local curry house almost every other week. I’d love to go back some day.

As always, see below a few of my favorites images. A Nikon D3, D700 and 14-24mm f2.8, a 35mm f2 and a 85mm f1.4 were used.
